Frequently asked questions
What can I expect during a first session?
We’ll discuss what prompted you to seek therapy, gather background information to get to know you, answer any questions you may have, and most importantly, gain an understanding about what you hope for our work together.
How much does therapy cost?
Please contact me to discuss my fees. Payment is expected at the time of the visit and can be made by cash, check, or credit card.
Do you offer a sliding-scale?
I do reserve several sliding scale fee slots for those that cannot afford my customary rate. Please call me to discuss further.
Do you take insurance?
I am not in network with any insurance providers. However, to learn about your out of network benefits, you can call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask questions such as:
Do I have out of network benefits for mental health care or behavioral health care?
Is there a limit as to how many sessions I can attend?
What does my insurance deem as the reasonable rate for psychotherapy CPT code 90834?
How much will I be reimbursed?
Do I have a deductible?
I will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you do have out of network benefits.
Is Therapy really confidential?
Yes, I am legally and ethically bound to maintain confidentiality. There are a few exceptions, which I will explain to you in detail if we work together. For instance, if I have reason to think someone is of significant risk of harm to themselves or to someone else, as a mandated reporter I do have to tell the appropriate and relevant people to ensure safety.
How long will my therapy last?
Length of treatment will vary depending on the nature of your health concerns. I will be able to better answer this question after the initial session(s) once I get a better understanding of the present concerns.
Can we do tele-therapy?
Yes. When clinically appropriate, I’m happy to have video-sessions. I use the SimplePractice video platform because it is HIPAA-compliant, easy to use, and free for patients. You can download Telehealth by Simplepractice for use on your computer, phone, iPad, or tablet.
Are you going to prescribe medication?
No. If you are interested in obtaining psychotropic medication (medication for mental health purposes), I can refer you to a psychiatrist.
